Thread: MC in button over state

  1. #1

    Default still don't get it!

I am desperate now. I even bought a guide book on Flash, but it doesn't work. I've created an animation movie clip and want to use it in a button as an "over." But it doesn't work! There's only the first frame of the movie showing. Also, if I "import" the movie clip into the "over" frame, it creates a new layer with the entire movie in it, but the button doesn't work properly.

WHAT AM I DOING OR NOT DOING???

    Hi,

Drag an instance of your movieclip onto the stage. Double click it and make sure you dont have any stop actions on the timeline. If you dont, return to the main timeline, select the movieclip and right click, select 'cut'. Click your button on the stage and insert a new layer. Insert a keyframe on frame 2(over) of this layer. Paste the movieclip on the stage in the over keyframe. This will display the movieclip in the button over state, as long as the movieclip has no stop actions, it will play.

    Default still nada

NTD, I still can't do it. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. From reading the documentation, what confuses me is when it says that when you're finished with your button, take it to your original "movie." But I'm not making a movie. I just want to make buttons for my website.

    Help?

    Hi,

When flash uses the term "movie" it is referring to the published product of an .fla file. For example, your website.fla is your flash movie producer. The .swf file that it produces IS your flash movie. It has a timeline that plays at frames per second, just like a movie projector, except that flash uses a default frame rate of 12 fps and movies generally run at 24 frames per second. What it is telling you to do is create a seperate movie to create your button. Then when you are happy with your button, place it(copy and paste) in the movie, or .fla that will produce the final product(your movie). If you have a demo file that you can post somewhere in MX format, I can take a look at it to better understand what your doing.

Default movie clip file for you

Thanks, stacks, NTD. You're a great help. I do have a sample movie clip for you, but now how do I attach it to get it to you?

    Hi,

Do you have a website? If so, just upload the .fla and it will be downloadable if you post the path to it.

    Default help

see, here's the problem. I did everything you said and what the Flash guide said--namely--

    1. Return to movie-editing mode by clicking the name of the current scene in the Info bar at the top of the Stage.
    2. Drag a copy of your button from the Library window to the Stage.

But here's the deal. The entire button is in only one frame of the main scene and I'm not allowed the "play" feature.

    Hi,

Sent you a button demo. What do you mean by the 'play' feature? You can test your movie to see the button in action.
