Default Error Creating Flash Movie - Newbie help :)

Hello all, I'm new here and new to Flash also. I designed a dress up game and had a programmer write some actionscript so that players would be able to drop/drag clothing and it would click to the model.

For some reason I am unable to test the movie. I get this error:

"Error creating Flash Movie: Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check to make sure the name is not too long"

I saw this error on a previous post and someone said you must go to Publish Settings and check the location of your file, because the error means it has been moved from it's original location (which I assume is the programmers machine) since there is a looong file path that seems to be from his machine.

What do I do? I'd also like to be able to reuse this actionscript for another game and am unable to do that also.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

You may have a corrupt file. This occasionally occurs with .fla files. You can try a couple of things, first....try saving the file under a different name. Reopen the new file and test. If that doesn't work, try creating a new file, copy the timeline and paste it to the new file. Save this file and test it. If that doesn't work, your best bet would be to contact the original author.

Not necessarily - I had the same problem while publishing the file from within the Flash CS4 on my iMac.
I have then decided to open the same file in the Flash CS4 on my other PC and the error message was different - actually more descriptive - it simply said that the folder to which I'm about to publish the file doesn't exists.
I have purchased the source file form the online stock and then copied files to the different folder - where I was amending the layout etc. Basically what I had to do was to go to the Publish Settings and change the Output location to the new one - this has solved the problem for me.

    Hi!
    That's exactly my problem -
However, I can't seem to find anywhere in file / 'Publish Settings' that allows me to change the destination folder in CS4 - help?

    Thanks!!!

This is where to correct the path for TESTs.
I know this is long past the original thread date however I had the same problem having only now upgraded my Flash version.

    On Mac...

    File > Publish Settings >

    * then choose Formats tab. The first option under list of Type is Flash (.swf)
    * click on the folder - you need to choose the destination folder on your preferred HDD.
    * note the name in the "save as" field - it may still include the OLD path!! so you need to clean that up.
    * click Save. You're done. "Test Movie" will work just fine now
