Flash to download a pdf file

I am designing a website in flash, how do I get the movie to access and download a remote pdf file on my server?

I've tried the getURL thing like you mentioned.

Works great in firefox, because it downloads to the computer

However in Safari (and I'm not sure about internet explorer, etc) instead of downloading the pdf, it actually loads it into a new browser window.

This would be ok, except that the pdf is quite big so when it opens in a new window, it takes a long time and looks like it isn't working at all (because the viewer doesn't realise that it is a big file and will take a while to load)

i cant make the pdf smaller, because this is a site for another person who wants the whole pdf- i just want it to download rather than open

is there a bit of extra code that will make this work on ALL browsers?

This can be accomplished by firstly upload your files at http://www.axmag.com/submit.html, after conversion you'll get a url link, rewrite this code link in your website script. Hope this would help.

You should be able to use getURL("pdflocationhere.pdf"); - but I believe thats totally dependent on how the users computer is set up. If they don't have Adobe Reader, it will probably fail, or will attempt to load the pdf within a modern browser that should have the reader plug-in. From my experience, when using getURL() within a projector, it will attempt to open the filetype based on that specific filetype's default opening program which is set in the OS.
