Popup or notification for timer?

I have written a flash app that simply counts down the time. It is designed as a timer to have continuously running in a background tab and when it hits zero, it is supposed to popup a notification over the cureent screen (not the timer page) to inform the user that the alarm has gone off. With getURL, I have only been able to make it happen on a user driven event such as on click or on release. How can I get it to popup when the timer hits zero?

Also... is it possible to have a dialog box post the message outside of the flash movie? Could I use this for my popup? I dont need anything other than a visual notification. Please help.

The getURL method can be called directly from a frame or without a user driven event...

getURL("http://ntdesigns.net");


Another option might be to call a javascript alert window...

getURL("javascript:alert('you clicked me')");


The final option would be to use an internal pop up window. Basically, a movieclip on the top layer with the _visible property set to false until it is needed in view.
