Thread: Text on a path?

    Default Text on a path?

I can't seem to figure out if it's even possible to put text on a path in Flash MX. I don't have MX 2004, by the way. Putting text on a path is pretty common in programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, but I can't seem to find it in Flash. I want to put some text on a circle, or any curved path for that matter. I made it in Photoshop and put it in Flash as a .png, but it just doesn't look good as it rotates, and that's the key to the design. Help if you can...

    Hi,

The ability of flash to handle text on a non linear path is something many developers have long complained about. It can be achieved manually by breaking the text into individual letters and arranging them on a path, then group the letters, turn them into a movieclip and manipulate the _rotation property of the clip......

Change the extension to .fla for a look at the file. It could probably be done with actionscript also, but I have not looked into that.

    Hope it helps

Well, that was time consuming, but it worked just fine. Moving the centerpoint of each letter to the center of the circular path is a good way to get the letter in the right spot. Hopefully a future version of Flash will allow you to simply type along a path.
