View Full Version : Is it possible to distort objects for tweening?

Hi,

I've got a client who wants a slight 3D animation incorporated into the presentation. However, the only way to do this would be to distort and movieClip symbol and tween the animation. This doesn't seem possible in Flash, does anyone know of a way to get around this or maybe a plugin that would allow me to do this?

The only way I can think of is frame by frame animation and that would take a long, long time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. ;)

Cheers,
Anders

Hi,

I dont understand the problem. What sort of slight 3D animation are you talking about? Flash uses vector graphics and functions on a 2D plane. Real 3D simulations are not possible with Flash. However, there are some work arounds. You could use a 3D program like 3D Studio Max or Swish3D and import those files into Flash. Another option is to simulate 3D with Actionscript. Flash works off of an X and Y axis but you can programaticallycreate a Z axis to handle depth. A better description of what the 3D part is would help in suggesting a solution.

I suggest you inform your client of just how much time and effort that would require in Flash. It's entirely possible that you could do it in a non-FBF way using only Flash, but that's a lot of work. I recall seeing a 3d face someone made completely in 2d by slicing it into a bunch of layers that are ontop of eachother and can move independently.

If you're just doing text or something, there are a few sites out there that will generate that for you for free, like www.3dtextmaker.com ... but they're pretty cheesy.

Stylistically it can be fun to play with Flash in 3d -- a while back I made a silly little "3d" animation for my local cable channel that was just a few layers going from right to left, scrolling at different speeds so that it looked like the farther away stuff moved slower than the closer up, which created a nice illusion. A lot of TV channels have been playing with that concept lately, though most of them seem to be using actual 3d programs and just using image planes. Comedy central is one that does that for almost all of its channel-based commercial animations.

Good luck figuring out what to do.
